The beloved Lanesboro Farmers Market opens for the season at Sylvan Park along the Root River. Pick up fresh local produce, baked goods, eggs, meats, crafts, and artwork from regional vendors. The market runs every Saturday through October.

Preston City HallThe Commonweal’s 2026 season opener, No Wake, is a poignant lakeside drama about grief, intergenerational friendship, and loon conservation set on New Hampshire’s Lake Winnipesaukee. A 71-year-old widower and a 19-year-old neighbor navigate shared struggles and unexpected connection. Tickets: $38 adults. Continuing through May and into summer on rotating repertory schedule.

Minnesota’s longest cave — 13+ miles of passages — opens for the 2026 season on May 9. The one-hour Scenic Tour winds through stunning stalactites, stalagmites, underground pools, and 430-million-year-old fossils at a constant 48°F. Stroller and wheelchair accessible. A new Karst Landscape guided tour ($25/person, ages 8+) also debuts this season starting May 23. Tickets: $15 adults, $10 ages 5–12, free under 5. State park vehicle permit required ($7/day or $35 annual).

The Southeast Minnesota Bluegrass Association’s beloved spring festival returns to Cushon’s Peak Campground — nestled in a beautiful Root River valley between Rushford and Houston. Multiple bands perform Friday, Saturday, and Sunday with plenty of campground jamming throughout the weekend. Come for a day or set up camp for all three. Direct Root River Trail access for biking, fishing, and canoeing between sets.

Preston’s biggest annual celebration is back! Trout Days is a full weekend of family-friendly fun celebrating “Minnesota’s Trout Capital.” Events include: the Friday night EMS Steak Dinner, Saturday Kids Fishing Contest on the 9-hole Fishing Course, the beloved Grand Parade, Car Show, fireworks at dusk, live music, chicken BBQ at the Servicemen’s Club, citywide garage sales (submit your address by May 9 to get on the map!), and tons of food vendors. A beloved Fillmore County tradition since decades past — don’t miss it.

Spring Grove — Minnesota’s first Norwegian settlement — celebrates Norwegian Constitution Day (May 17, 1814) with one of the region’s most beloved annual festivals. Events include the Grand Parade with a Viking boat down Main Street, Musikk Fest live music concert (national, regional & local country/blues/rock acts), Norwegian bake sale, Dad’s Waffle Breakfast, classic car show, quilt show, kids’ pedal pull, soap box races, alumni baseball game, craft and food vendors, traditional lefse and meatball meals, and much more. A true community celebration of Nordic heritage.

Fillmore County websiteA brand-new 2.5-hour guided tour debuts at Mystery Cave this season! Explore the cave, then emerge to discover Cherry Grove Blind Valley Scientific and Natural Area — featuring sinkholes, disappearing streams, and other remarkable karst geology. This is the first time this tour has been offered. Cost: $25/person, recommended for ages 8+. Runs through September 7, 2026. Reservations required.
